Birthday Girl Shares with Animal Shelter

As Emily's 8th birthday approached, she decided that she wanted to help
a local animal shelter. She got the idea from a show on the Animal Planet
channel.

Instead of having her friends bring gifts for the birthday girl, she
asked that her friends bring donations that a shelter could use. Her mom copied the list of needed items off the Greater Derry Humane Society's web site and included that in her party invitations.

All her friends and relatives were very supportive. She collected food, pet toys, leashes, copier paper, paper towels and other things necessary to help support the animals. On top of that, she donated all $100 of her birthday money. Her parents are very proud of her.

Emily is shown in the photo presenting her donations to Donna Clark from Animal Rescue Network of New England and representing Greater Derry Humane Society and Rocko. Rocko and other great dogs are still looking for a family of their own and Emily would love to think having his picture in the paper would help him find one. Visit www.derryhumanesociety.com and www.arnne.org for more pets waiting for homes.

Two thumbs up for Emily and all the hard work the Humane Society does!
